In Slovenian language we have a saying, "Kovačeva kobila je vedno bosa". English version could be "A shoemaker's wife and a smith's mare are always the worst shod" or "The shoemaker's son always goes barefoot". The meaning would be that the family of a skilled or knowledgeable person are often the last to benefit from their expertise. For example, somebody who works in a bakery, will always be without flour at home.
It is no different at our home. We have been talking about fixing our gramophone now for at least 6 months ... I really love listening to all the old LPs we have at home and I miss those moments. Although we don't have a lot of jazz LPs, seeing a gramophone always reminds me of jazz, of places where the air is filled with cigarette smoke and where they serve good wine.
What do you associate jazz with?
